Sheoak, Western Australian Casuarina fraserana Miq.

 

Tree Size: Medium-sized hardwood located in south­west Western Australia.

 

Figure variations: Lace, quilted, birds-eye and flame.

 

Wood Description: Red-brown colour with moder­ately fine and even grain.

 

Density/Weight: 720 kg/m3.

 

Drying: 1.5 -4.5%

 

Working Qualities: Bends, machines and takes a finish well. Care should be taken in the sanding process as the heat generated from drum sander can produce red brown streaks which will also clog the abrasive cloth.

 

Allergenics Issues:  The dust produced can be an irritant to the mouth and throat areas.

 

 Availability:  Limited sources in southwest Australia
